You know, I could wring my hands over drowned polar bears and flooded islands as well as the next bleeding heart pinko greenie, but when I hear that pasty little Englishmen are contemplating wearing shorts in the city, this is where I must draw the line. No, no, a thousand times no. We must stop this outrage and do something about climate change and warming trends. Now. This instant!

No one should ever have to see an Englishman's knees. It's just too terrible to contemplate.

Tuesday: I am having such a terrible time with liars, thieves, brutes and despots, I will instead tell you about my night at the theatre. Yes, due to losing my calendar, firewalls and pretty much having to rely on stuff I'd scrawled on scraps of paper, I'd severely overbooked myself this week (and I'm doing it again, though they brought out the Big Guns, in my defence, stuff I just can't say no to), and I wasn't looking forward to another grim piece of theatre, but you know what? I didn't mind it.

I do think the bad boy wunderkid of local theatre has his days numbered though, as the theatre was empty past my row H, which was unfortunate, and, yes, hello, bare, enormous, empty stage again, and the patrons either side of me did complain that it was a bit bleak for a Monday, and so it was, watching a nice, ordinary, nothing special but not a bad person middle aged woman suffer, go slowly mad and try and kill herself. Bleak isn't the word. And yet Kerry Fox was so good, so damn bloody good, she filled that cavernous space and made me weep.

There are Brixton riots on telly and for a moment I think it's a repeat of Ashes to Ashes again. No, just history repeating.

This week has been very Ashes to Ashes, though. I'm still smiling over the image of Sooty bashing out that unhappy tweet to me. It's the small (and yellow fluffy) things that amuse, especially this week.

Meantime, we caught a bit of Moonraker on the telly the other week. It's kind of sad, and I don't just mean the pigeon doing the double take. It's the shuttle, the concord, even the hovercraft, all gone. All that fun and wonder, just gone.

It's kind of weird when you think about it. Of all the things to emerge from the Sixties: James Bond, Doctor Who, the Beatles and space travel, who knew that space travel was the passing fad?

Just because I felt like typing today, not scanning. I don't care. It amuses me and keeps me off the streets.

White Collar ficcy bits, possibly rated M for those of a prudish disposition, though I've seen worse in ads for Offspring on telly. clicky )

Oh my. Monday. And it's definitely turning out to be one of those complete disaster and I haven't even caught the bus yet kind of days. But before I get into my grizzling, and the monkey incident, some piccies:

At least I have White Collar on telly. I would have to think that, wouldn't I? So they took it away, of course. Sigh.

I would have to actually go and say that. It joins the list of dangerous and forbidden utterances, like 'isn't it such a lovely day' and 'how bad can it be?'.

ask

It really was too much to ask for, but really, was it asking so much, just one night, home in front of the telly?

Apparently so. The usual bastard bastard redball 4.15er so I had to stay back late, and fret, as the transport gets thin on the ground where I abode.

I suppose I should be very grateful I did manage to get through the door in time to see Lee Majors hand on the tv tough guy mantle to (not so) young Valley on Human Target. It's so cheesy, but kinda sweet, and really, really a lot of sun king/dying king mythos, if you've been over indulging in the Rosemary Sutcliff oeuvre (guilty as charged). What can I say? It was a cheap and cheesy tv moment but I liked it, because it wasn't just referencing tv tradition, and tv of my childhood at that, but much, much older traditions, too, if one wants to read such meaning into a daft show like Human Target, and one really shouldn't.

"Unrequited love. It's fantastic, 'cause it never has to change, it never has to grow up and it never has to die!"

Um, not quite. And isn't it interesting to compare Vince's declaration with Martha's: more: spoiler, and oh no, not you again )

"Were it not for us being such bad coppers, in 20 years time all those cold case shows like Waking The Dead wouldnt have cases to re-open!" - Dead Ringers LOM sketch.

Well, I've often thought that. I keep waiting for the Waking the Dead crew to open up one of Gene's old cases. Or the New Tricks lot. :)

Meanwhile, I was supposed to be reading my new(ish) book, but I ended up watching the clouds as we mounted the old Anzac bridge. What clouds. Piled high in boiling mountains up into a pale blue sly, darkly grey and hellish orange at the bottom but lit all fluffly white and pinky golden at the very top as dawn had just, that second, started to break. Full on Hollywood clouds. Constable would have creamed himself.

Alas, pop music didn't want to save me, then, or now. Oh well. I'm in a mood, a definite mood. I may take myself outside at lunchtime (barricaded up the wazoo) and get myself arrested for some un-American activity, just because I'm bored and restless.

Okay, enough with the blackhawks. There's only so many times one can hum Ride of the Valkyries before insanity really kicks in.

Meanwhile, up to my arse in work again, actually, drowneded in it, which is a pity because I had a third fic write itself out in my head last night/this morning. I was thinking it was a somewhat Kurosawa version of The Gest, but really, it's just Kill Bill, but whatever. Violence, revenge and mayhem, that's the main thing (besides, it's meant to be cathartic). I could write it out whole, today, and finish it and post it tonight, done deal, but for this thing we call work. Sometimes it's very frutrating to be a wage slave. Oh, to be supported by a rich and indifferent husband, but not me, alas.
