Hmmm, how to update the old lj without whining about how miserable I am. Tricky. Let's just take it as read that I'm bloody miserable and being back at work is compounding said misery. Moving on...

At least I know now that if I were sitting in the sun by the river at Hampton Court watching the bees buzz from flower to bobbing flower right now I could be perfectly happy, blissful, even, so long as I was on the other side of the damn planet to those who would grind me down. So it's not me, it's them. That's something, anyway.

TV? Some, but not what you might expect because the jetlag is still biting hard so I'm either watching stuff back later (and never finding out who murdered who and why because the shows always start anything from 5 to 55 minutes later than the damn guide says, and that's checking the electronic guide before I go and crash. Grump), not watching at all tv shows I promised to watch, and watching guilty secret crap at midday like Blood Ties (nothing like a cheap Canadian vampire show when you're home with the flu). Ah yes, Blood Ties and a vegemite sandwich, oh how I miss you.

Monday: Hey ho. Rather rubbish weekend, but at least it rained some of the time, which meant dvds! (Okay, it should have meant other things but it was bucket day so dvds it was).

And so much for my vow of no Christian Cooke. I'd entirely forgotten he played Richard Armitage's sweet young thang in the first episode of George Gently. Oh yeah, I got my mits on some George Gently and I had other stuff to watch but I caught Lee Ingleby being period copper in a Marple I'd not seen before and I was happily diverted so I decided to stay in the grove.
more: a very special episode )

Oh, hi. I've had a week. Even the present a dear friend so very kindly sent got backed over. That's the sort of week I've had. Sigh.

Still, if I'm to attempt to find a few littles gems in the steaming tsunami of merde that is my life right now, I suppose there was Saturday. I got up late because it was a bit grim, so I watched a dvd (yay!) while I waited for the weather to decide which way it was going to go. It went windy as hell, but I still managed to watch some Bergerac on my wee dvd player, though I could barely hear it and I swear the dvd must have skipped a whole scene in one episode, while I sat and kept an eye on the greywater buckets during the laundry cycles. Then a friend showed up mid washing and I ran away to go see Star Trek.

Firstly, points to the edited highlights of the True Blood trailer, featuring the sexy boy after too much jam doughnut. Mmmmm....doughnuts....

And I ended up quoting the Holy Grail while washing up on Sunday. Must have been something I watched on telly. Oh yes, that's right: Monty Python. You were expecting something else?

Meanwhile, I have camelias. The first I bought when I took a break from the middle of the washing of the socks to catch a bus to a nearby fete and saw one for sale which reminded me of the pinky white blooms of the late and lamented crabapple tree and since beggers are ill suited for being choosers, I trundled it all the way home in my trolly. A coupla klicks it was, too, up hill and down dale, so nuts to the person who said gardening wasn't proper exercise. And an extremely overfamilar camelia it was, too, as we bounced together all the way home. Branches! Branches! Branches in new places!

Then I got up on Sunday to water the garden and found three camelias lurking outside the back door where there had been one. Mildly alarming if you'd grown up on BBC kids shows in the 70s like I did, but it turned Himself, understanding that camelias were okay, had bought two more, a pink and a white to go with the pinky/white to plug the hole, the heartbreaking hole, in the shrubbery against the north fence where the ancient and gnarled old tree had been. The three cams fitted very nicely inbetween the roses to the left and the azaleas to the right. Sigh.
