Last night, for some reason, I dreamt I was trying to watch Soldier Soldier on TV, but even in my dreams the universe places 999 obstacles twixt me and destination couch. I’m only really bemused because dear old subconscious had picked up on the fact that I’d seen a splendid number of chaps with Soldier Soldier on their CV, even though I’d not really noted it, in shows as far flung as Turn, Grimm and Game of Thrones.

Sharpe is also making a strong showing this week, guest cast wise, but clearly the subby only has room for one lot of squaddies at the moment.

I hardly blame it. I’m surprised the old noggin is working at all. It certainly hasn’t been up to factory specs this week. In fact today is the first day I’ve been coordinated enough to attempt to tell you about it.

Last week, in a rare early mark (that is, only leaving an hour late) after an entire zoo of a week, I managed to get a seat on the bus, but my smug was short-lived as the lunatic driver (can they not hire anyone who can actually drive these days?) lurched to a sudden stopped and I had a seven kilo bag swung in my face at about 70kph (okay, maybe 5kg at 50kph, but still). It rang my bell good and hard. Damn nearly broke my nose and glasses and I saw stars and I though a smashed up noggin and nose that still feels stunned and squishy and not right was the worst of it. Although I felt ill, that’s nothing unusual given the overcrowded bus and bad driving of the madman behind the wheel. But when I tried to get off the bus, and for hilarity’s sake there was a cop car lurking on the corner, but clearly they must have had bigger fish to fry, I staggered, fell over several times, threw up all the way home and all night, and am still suffering the mad swirls five days later (and as for my 12 hour work day on Monday where I was not at all right but nevertheless left to manage a late running urgent media job, let us just shake our tender heads and say no more about it).

I’m fairly sure I’ve concussed the old noggin, which is weird because I’ve had my bell run before, but they copped me right on the spot, and so, not good. No, no medical attention, no money to do so, have to pay for flood damage and Himself’s bills. Yeah, well, if I keel over it won’t be my problem anymore (I’m really beginning to understand my father’s mindset, what he was thinking marrying that ludicrous fairy tale awful woman I’ll never know).

Meanwhile, speaking of always being smacked in the head, I finally finished Daredevil (there’s something to be said for a soaking wet Saturday and a complete inability to sit up, let alone stand up). I liked. I liked a lot. Typically, because either I’m a girl or weird or both, I liked Nelson Vs Murdock best, because of all the flashbacks to the buddy and sore tried bromance of Foggy and Matt. Reviews I’ve read have not been kind, and anyone who doesn’t get how betrayed Foggy is, and how for years he’s helped where he didn’t have to, how he was made an utter fool of, and lied to, well, clearly they’ve not had enough one-sided friendships to wince the way I did. Poor Foggy.

I also really like the way Foggy has been made less the 2D idiot sidekick, as he did suffer a rather dreadful case of the Watsons in previous versions (that is, as in some versions of Holmes and Watson where Watson is portrayed with an IQ of less than 70 and more likely to stick his foot in a bucket than find a clue – see Kate Beaton’s comic). So Foggy not being a legal idiot and having hurt feelings was a big improvement.

Ah, Friday. Last night was the last of Sharpe, alas. And I damn nearly missed it, too, because I was so tired that even though I was thinking about Sharpe, the thought that I was supposed to be actually watching him on telly took a while to intersect. I'd even forgotten Paul Bettany was in it, and how on earth could I forget that, when I even spent an afternoon capping him in it? [shakes head]. Poor old noggin: well past its useby date.

Are we sitting comfortably? I suggest that you should be, dear reader, as I am about to inflict a week's worth of unstructured ramblings upon you.

I watched S4 Spooks, since the dvds finally arrived. I was really started to grit my teeth over all the Spooks spoilers I was stumbling over, and I wanted to catch up on the as yet unscreened here fourth series before it was ruined for me any further (thankyou, The Times).

So, we're now stuck with Adam Carter. I like him well enough, but alas I don't love him quite the way I loved Tom (big, big Matthew fan here). I was actually plessantly surprised at how good S4 was, because significant cast changes are almost always symptomatic of shark jumping, but while Spooks, for me, started leaping over that Great White in S3, this time 'round, it was gripping television (so long as I put out of my mind any spoilers and extraordinarily similiar plots seen on my Special Branch disks).

It's a minor Philip Glenister fest. There he was in Silent Witness on Wednesday, and last night, well, it were Sharpe's Justice. There was our lad, being all golden haired and shouty and angry (big stretch there - grin) and, good grief, Sharpe's long lost half brother. Not that Sharpe seemed much bothered, one way or the other.

It's kind of hard to bash out a mini essay, because unlike LOM, I feel like I've already said everything I've had to say about this episode before. There's the industrial unrest and the references to Peterloo, the Austen ripoffs homages with Wickham, the brief return of Lady Anne and the continuing saga of Jane and Rossendale.

Every so often, a Monday feels it has to live up to the legend. First off, I've lost my notebook and disk with all of the fic I wrote yesterday, which was quite a bit as I had nothing else to do as the house shuddered and juddered in 100kph gusts. Hopefully it fell out of my bag at home and not on the bus, or I will be in tears.

Then there was the bus trip itself. I had the eye-watering garlic salami eater breathing down my neck from behind (I'll have to burn my clothes), and the OCD nail clipper in front. This is why I took out my book to read and why I'm panicking about having dropped the Sam pr0n on the bus. Gah. It was early and I was distracted.

Yesterday was not fun. It went from about 9.30 am to 6pm, at which time I braved outside to right pot plants and garden furniture, collect feral buckets and fallen branches. One huge branch (about 2m long) had contained a bird's nest in its crook. We searched on vain for baby birds. Oh well. I have a large pile of kindling now, for whatever purpose, I suppose. Anyone need anyone burnt at the stake?

But you don't want to hear about real life.

Right then, The Vice. Precious little Marc Warren but lots of S&M. British cop shows are so kinky these days - nobody ever uses handcuffs for arresting people.

Everyone here is upset over the Hamster. I am truly concerned, but I am also bemused at discovering just how many folks I know are actually closet Top Gear fans. And here I was going to tell you how annoyed I was at missing it on Monday. Doesn't seem quite so important now. I wuv the Hamster, and it makes me sad.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the "if you hate it so much, why are you watching" emails. None so far. I am disappointed. Love Sam, I do, and it's a testament to John's skills as an angsty thesp that he can make a character so unlikeable on paper so damn loveable on screen. I really do like Sam very much and I think he has many fine qualities. I just find the darkness that ripples beneath the surface intriguing. Sam is a messed up guy, whichever way you slice it, and that makes him fascinating. I suspect Gene agrees re the fascination.

Okay, starting with Friday, there was Midsomer Murders, which I can't stand, but I was waiting up for The Vice, having missed Stargate (bit of a grizzle here as Daniel was on the telly in a singlet being all man candy when I was turned around at the door to go shopping for tea - arrrgh - especially as I'd decided to sod work and go home and watch Daniel). Every time I watch MM it seems the local fair/fete inspires a rash of murders. They really take their cake competitions seriously down there, and I'd be suffering anxiety as the annual fete day approached, but never mind. Also, did not need to see Simon Callow in his y-fronts. Really did not.

The Vice, well, I guess I was overtired and fidgety, and there wasn't enough Marc Warren, because it just didn't grab me at all this time around. Nor were any of the interesting subplots teased out. Sigh.

Just one last pic of Titus and his pretty eyes before I have to move onto something else. Can't help myself, Titus and Lucius and the slashiest pair since Marcus and Esca strolled north of Hadrian's Wall (that's the chronological viewing, thereof, as Marcus' adventures historically occur much later than Titus', I think - BA? Wot BA?). It's just one of those things. The first time I watched Rome it was just so much homework and no fun at all. A year later and, watching it with a spurious romantic narrative which I seem to paste onto all action flicks, and it's sooo much fun. Besides, Rome is about brotherly love, the testing of it, the lack of it, true love and false whispers.

And besides, the look on Lucius' face when he realises he's about to watch Titus die in front of him and he just cannot do it, despite the consequences (though Julius is such a big softy when it comes to the boys), and if the testing of the bonds of brotherly love via mortal combat weren't enough, there's lashings of H/C to follow. Squeee!!!

Thursday: It was a dark and stormy night. It really was. Lashings of rain and the loudest thunder I've heard in a long while. It was still a dark and stormy night when I left for work, so again I sing the praises of my uggies, sparing me the misery of having wet shoes all day, as the lane reverted to its true nature and became a creek again, and there was no way of getting across without getting soaked.

It was a horrid, leaky old bus too, which meant I got even wetter just sitting there as it rained as much inside and outside, and when the bus made the violent turn towards the shopping centre, all the rain that had been collecting in the light fitting above me sloshed into my lap, kinda like Flashdance, only a helluva lot less sexy.

Lookit: British people, and they're not talking about crime scenes. I'm watching a tape from the UK with ads in it and it's strange to hear British folk chattering about stuff that isn't actually crime. Um, not that I watch huge amounts of UK cop shows. I'm not an addict, I tell you.

Happily the ads end and we're back to flashing blue lights and men in puffy plastic suits putting stuff in plastic baggies. A crime scene! Phew!

Yesterday seemed to be nowt but Yorkshire boys, either actually born there or playing one on telly.

War! What is it good for?

Well, great tv plots actually, from Sharpe to Cybermen and from Cracker to The Sweeney, from Bond to Adam Adamant, and all points in between. Not to mention some cracking songs.

Damn weather. It thought it was Summer for a few days, then snapped back for a few frosty Spring mornings. Especially frosty when I had to get up early yesterday to water the garden: the hose was frozen again. Frosty too re the outdoor loos at work. Now I grew up with outdoor dunnies so I ain't no princess, but ice cold loo seats first thing in the morning are one bit of 70s nostalgia I could well do without.

There was a cartoon in one of the papers (sadly not online, or I'd throw you a link), but at least it made me feel like I wasn't the only Gen Xer to be tinged with a strange sort of Ostalgia for the Cold War. Happier times.

Och, lassie, it was hard getting up this morning. A real wrench. I was tired, unwell, unwilling to submit myself to the further bullying of my elders and betters, but most importantly, my bed was warm, the pain killers were just starting to kick in and Sharpe was being all golden and gorgeous on the telly. Sigh.

It was a particular tragedy as, anxious to get home in time for Sharpe the whole bus ride home, but with the driver preferring warp ten (as opposed to the one this morning who dribbled along as though there were a wee man in walking in front with a red flag) I made it home with a whole hour to spare (amazing what a difference a driver can make) and so I got myself all nice and comfy and turned on the telly and...Zzzzz....

We get Cracker on Friday! We get Cracker on Friday! Mwahaha!

Well, how often do I get to see things first, eh? Very hardly ever. Of course, this means no watchee Robson (Wire In The Blood, also on Friday night), but Fitz trumps Tony any day.

On Sunday, a large silver airship puttered past the kitchen window in the early morning. It would be eyebrow raising enough (except that the weekly flyover by the Baron Von Richthofen makes everything somewhat less surreal by comparison), but the morning after the first Cybermen episode? Eeep. Apparently, the airship did it again this morning. Double eep.

First of all, does anyone know of any decent, easy to use, suitable for my jelly like brain video editing software? Because nothing I've downloaded from tucows I understand. I only ask because if you want your stuff presented professionally, you're going to have to give me a few prods/tips/helping hand/smacks over the head.

Okay, this post was supposed to be about Sharpe's Honour (nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!), especially as I'd been looking forward to it for ages, Sharpe being all angsty and pretty, and it featuring the duel that inspired that whole Sharpe/Methos series and bonus Nikolas Grace, but no. Events overtook me.
