thank fuck it's Thursday
Apr. 17th, 2003 10:43 amYesterday was not a good day. I wanted to get off work early to go shopping for eggs (or my life is forfeit) but Rodger Dodger rang up at 15:00 just as I knew he would. Managed to palm him off til tomorrow because if one had to choose whom I feared most, it would be Ancient Mother with no chocolate tithes come this weekend. No siree, not gonna happen. So tired, ill and cranky I went off shopping for eggs. I knew it would be bad but it was just so much worse. Those people are animals. Came home shaking and crawled into bed. Happily this meant catching Ewan being absolutely gorgeous on E! in clips from Down With Love. Oh my, and just when Ewan's star was starting to slip a little in my pantheon. He's so darn cute and sexy and that grin, that wicked twinkle in the eye, that mischief. Oh my. Oh Ewan.
This was my highlight of the day. Missed most of Buffy, though again Dark Willow coincides with my mood exactly, because there's about a dozen people I'd like to flay alive, fer starters (well, I said I don't suffer fools to live, let alone gladly) but happily Angel offered up Dark Wes and my dear, dear Anthony Starke as a scuzzy drug dealer. That my beloved Ezra should come to this. Oh well. At least in this first episode Connor is actually likeable. It's the endless teenaged moping later that begins to drag, no matter how realistic my friend says it is (we never had to sit through sustained Scooby moping so I don't know why the insist on making the next generation so unlikeable). Never mind. Alexis! Tony! There's my Scooby Snack for the night.
So I tried to get to sleep but woke up violently ill again. Alas, my poor dinner of excellent Thai styled mussels because they were really nice. Not so much the second time around though (still, nothing is as bad as eel - don't ask, ya don't wanna know). So I staggered back to bed and behold it was Boomtown. I'd missed the first ten minutes or so but it's not hard to pick up the plot and I suspect EC7 must have been editing it heavily because since being moved to the midnight to dawn shift I've been enjoying it immensely. David is all sleazy and falling apart and Andrea was symathetically drawn, finally, and the ending I found strangely affecting. We close out with Mr Middleclass Dad and his returned daughter seemingly unconerned at the fate of the crazy homeless guy who'd rescued said daughter and I'm thinking same old same old as cray homeless guys are the new Blacks on US TV but lo and behold the father and daughter leave out a plate of prime steak for homeless guy and I thought it was really touching. So they did give a damn, afterall. I was so surprised because you know how soulless middleclass people can be (it's all about their fancy houses and stock shares).
That's two episodes in a row that have stayed with me so Boomtown is looking up. Too bad everybody else has lost interest. Oh well. That's me, always an outlyer from the bell curve.
Happy Birthday, Sean.
