After a particularly rough day, because I just love judgemental twats getting up in my face, it was a cheery evening with a barely bloody drinkable red and a big episode of Buffy (the one where Angel gets happy) and an episode of Law & Order UK, which wasn't cheery at all, but it had cute as a button Jamie Bamber in it, and they were wandering around my favourite streets (unlike other shows set in other cities, I could see them stroll past just one shop and know exactly where they are, hello shop, a couple of doors down from my Cafe Nero and I need to go back, I'm a few cups short of a freebie) and it's all old L&O episodes in English drag, which adds a further layer of meta hilarity to the proceedings, and there's Bill Paterson popping up to growl something in his brogue and, well, I am very easily amused.

Finished off with Once Upon a Time, which is freaky and does not bear close examination at all but I'm happy to waft along for the ride. It's all very daft but with the same sort of soapy stuff that kept me bouncing along with Buffy, so it tweaks that kink and I'm happy.

Briefly, there were spiders, and other animals, and it was searing hot, and I watched a lot of really, cheesy television. And loving it.

I seem to be jinxed again today. I did manage to catch my bus this morning, but I tell ya, if you can spill it, walk into it, trip over it, entangle oneself in it, drop it, break it, delete it, rip it, soak it, stain it or otherwise variously fold, spindle or mutilate it, I've done it. In other words, I am a walking, or rather stumbling, bad hair day wardrobe malfunctioning disaster area.

Sigh. I make Maxwell Smart look suave.

Borders is gone. That was....sudden. It was there the other day, I swear it was. It was just a bit too damp for the park and I desperately needed to get out of the office so I waddled up to Borders as per usual to find it shut and empty. Brusque. I wasn't the only one staring at the locked doors open mouthed, either.

Brit News

Yep, the Sweeney is back on TV, and not before time, but way too long between drinks for me - I've lost my Sweeney ear. I spent the first half of the episode whining "Hold up, George" and "SBS Euro cop subtitling unit: we need you", but alas, no SBS subtitles to the rescue, so I've still only the rough gist of the chappies in the very, um, impressive ski masks (wot, had the IRA bought up all the butch black ones?) robbing toffs with shooters and our lads grumbling and swearing and in and out of sweaty pubs and the like. A couple more weeks and I'll be like Manny after he over indulged in the Sweeney - grin.

So, of course, last night, despite having every good and just intention of watching the no doubt excellent Brit telly the ABC was serving up, well, it just wasn't going to happen, not when there was Tufty in the offing. So yeah, I watched Life on Mars. And loved every damn minute of it.

WED: Well, I have a few new baubles for my tiny, tiny tree, which is something. I actually got some tree hooks for free as there was none left but a half used, half chewed packet and the girl gave to me for free as I'd suffered enough (I'd related the sad, sad tale of my ex decs and the queue behind me almost turned into a support group as fellow tinsel-philes shuddered at the thought of suffering same).

I like that though, being declared having "suffered enough". Would that I could use that as a pass for other equally fractious facets of my life.

And I like the wee little elf I found. He looks very Rankin Bass, hence the appeal.

Tues: Home again, home again. And it's good to be home again. I know it's churlish to complain, considering how some folk's hols turned out, and there but for the grace of that I'm not stuck in Bangkok, but I've had/have this flu that put a bit of a capper on my enjoyment of things.

That and feeling guilty about being selfish and doing stuff I wanted to do, but if the worst my mature aged teenage rebellion can come up with is running away to watch Hamlet, well, other folks have done dirtier deeds.

But yes, anyway, home, back to warmth and sunshine and one of those golden November days that even made Redfern look pretty (was stuck there, in traffic, for ages). Finally staggered out of taxi (after three days on a plane) to the welcoming arms of a neighbour who knew I was coming home and didn't want me to arrive to an empty house. Am still verklempt at the very idea that she cared, undeserving (and selfish) wretch that I am. Then I discovered the house swept clean and coffee and cake waiting in the kitchen.

I've never had a homecoming like it. Yep, home again. Even my desk was left unmessed, my chair still there, ditto cup. Home again, home again.
